Distant Worlds 2 continues the 4x strategy game of the same name, but on a new 64-bit engine, with revamped 3D graphics and elaborated interface. Here the user has to start their own story in a vast world, acting in real time. The game focuses on multiplayer, where at the start is invited to choose a side of the conflict, and then engage in customization and customization universe, thanks to the built-in editor.

In the space simulator the user is transported into an enormous galaxy, which consists of more than 2 thousand star systems, many thousands of planets, moons, asteroids, which must be explored and used, for example, for mining valuable minerals or conquest. Here it is also possible to establish diplomatic relations with the local inhabitants. With the in-game editor, the gamer sets various parameters, such as choosing the number of starsystems, planets, asteroids, spaceships, bases, monster enemies, and sets the attributes for his Empire. The player can always activate the help in order to find out about the different elements on the screen, or he can read the "Galactopedia" (also included), which describes the game elements and instruments. In the space simulator you must operate in each of the sectors of the galaxy, trying to gain your own profit from exploring, exploiting, expanding your territory and destroying your enemies.

The virtual universe is vast in size and is populated by 7 different factions, each with their own characteristics and playthrough style. The main mission of the user is to rebuild and improve his empire, constantly encountering representatives of other powers, common aliens, their colonies, as well as traders, pirates and monsters, with whom to engage in real-time battles, gradually revealing secrets. Here you can control a single ship that you level up in the process, and build an empire from it, gradually expanding the transport with the help of modules.
